Axios is a fast-growing media company with a mission to help people and companies make better decisions, by making information consumption as efficient as possible.
We’re looking for a Front-End Developer to help build out our products, both for our internal users and for the world at large. You’d be joining a small, nimble, welcoming team with a fantastic track record and a lot of skills to learn from, helping to expand our reach into new markets and product segments. We’re large enough that we have good processes in place while being small enough that your fingerprints will be visible on the products you work on. This opportunity is rare, to get in early at a new media company and help shape its future.
Here’s what we’re looking for in candidates:
YOU LIKE TO ITERATE AND REFINE QUICKLY
You can take a mockup and a conversation and turn it into quality code in a short amount of time, then spend time working with a business partner to refine and improve that first draft. You love the challenge of figuring out how to do a new thing in a new way, and love answering the question “Is [x] possible?”
YOU ARE ABLE TO BALANCE QUALITY WITH DEADLINES
You recognize that the best code is code that gets shipped and is able to evaluate tradeoffs that come with working on a deadline. Your code is testable because you write tests as you go. You document your thought process clearly so you know what to keep in mind when you refactor.
YOU ARE A FAST LEARNER
You have a core set of technical skills, have shown you can use them in professional settings, and probably have a few favorite languages, frameworks, and methods. Even if you’re early in your career, you have a few examples of projects you’ve worked on and products you’ve helped shape. You also are totally willing to jump in, feet first, to evaluate and deploy new tools with which you’re unfamiliar. You’re eager to learn and can turn what you learned into clear documentation for others to build on.
YOU LIKE WORKING WITH OTHER THOUGHTFUL PEOPLE
You’re the kind of developer who relishes a good code review because it means your work is made all the better. You give constructive feedback, send links to new Github repos you found, and take colleagues for an afternoon coffee trip when you need a break. You thrive on new ideas and perspectives because you know that a great team can accomplish so much more than one person can, no matter how talented they are.
YOU CARE ABOUT ACCESSIBILITY
You understand that to help inform and change the world, you have to actually reach the world, wherever and whoever they happen to be. You’re excited to tackle the challenge of making information available to people in all kinds of contexts, and with all kinds of abilities and devices.
Do you fit some of these categories? Do you just think the job would be up your alley? Do you want to build something cool and have fun? Then please apply. Let us decide if you’re the right candidate—if you have an ounce of desire to apply, please do!
One of our core tenets is “Best Job Ever”, and we back that up with great benefits and a culture that supports your growth. This includes:
